My take

By: Kaveel Singh
One of my favourite quotations is by William Shakespeare that goes, “Action is eloquence”. I believe that good old William was encouraging us all to become the best we can when he said that.
The day I read that quote was the day I decided that everything I ever wanted was within my grasp. All I had to do was map out a logical, realistic plan and I could achieve anything. Now, in this cynical pessimistic contemporary world we’re occupying, many people would argue that circumstance is a large contributor to one’s destiny. To a certain extent, they are right, but for the most part I believe that all those people are too afraid to leave their comfort zones and venture their true potential.
The reason I’m studying journalism is very simple. The world as we know it, from the day we are born, till the day we stop breathing, is dictated by media. Some people don’t believe this, and say that there are more variables and elements contributing. I feel that they’re all just too far down the rabbit hole to see the light. Assuming that the people reading this essay are experts in the media industry, you and I know all too well that the media runs the world. Clothing, eating habits, varying lifestyles, taste in women or men, even the colours we deem our favourite are all manifestations of a conditioned society whose conditioning tool is the media.
I am of the firm belief that if I can worm my way deep into the heart of the world of media (We’re talking owning Rupert Murdoch) then I can make the world a better place for us all. Lets face it, the world we are currently living in is being ruined by mankind and our self destructive nature.
In my world, I am the hero and I’m infiltrating the beast from the inside. And trust me; I will be the victor at the end of this adventure.
Basically, when it comes down to the crunch, people in power (most of whom we put there) do not adequately perform in the jobs that we have assigned to them. They take the power given to them and abuse it. Ironically, the people who give them this power are the most negatively affected by their poor decisions. Accountability is something that I wish to instill immensely in most of the high-powered officials we have in this country and the world (notice that my country came first).
But first, I think people need to be more educated of the power they have and that at the end of the day, no matter the circumstance, they can dictate and control how they want to live.
A vote.
That is the greatest power that has been given to the ordinary Joe. They don’t have to vote for some one just because of past actions or future promises. They can put into power whom they deem to be worthy of making the world a better place for us all. In addition, most people are not familiar with the know how of the general workings of the world of politics.
This is where I believe my contribution can be pivotal to the world. Not only must people understand the value of the power of democracy, but they must also be educated of the inner workings of everything that contributes to their standard of living.
This is the vital component I believe is missing in the world of media. Armament of the masses is the greatest good we can do as media. After all, that is what the media is here for…the masses.
